Ripe cantaloupe is sweet, soft, and nearly seedless once the core is out. It needs very little help. A bit of ginger keeps the flavor from tasting flat.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving.
- 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (about 30 g)
- 1 ½ cups cantaloupe, cubed
- ½ cup water
- ¼ tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 5 ice cubes
Method
- Cut the cantaloupe off the rind and into cubes. Chill them in the fridge first if you have time.
- Add the water, protein powder, melon, and ginger to the blender.
- Add the ice and blend for 45 seconds.
- Taste before serving. The shake only tastes as sweet as the melon.

Tips
- A ripe cantaloupe smells sweet at the stem end. An odorless one will taste watery.
- Use the melon within a few days of cutting for the best flavor.
Swaps and variations
- Add a squeeze of lime to bring out the sweetness.
- Use coconut water in place of the water.
