Raw rolled oats blend into a shake without any cooking. They add fiber and body, so the result is thicker than a standard protein shake. Blend a little longer than usual to break the oats down fully.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving.
- 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder (about 30 g)
- ¼ cup rolled oats
- 1 cup 2% milk
- 1 medium banana
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 ice cubes
Method
- Add the oats and milk to the blender first and let them sit for a minute so the oats soften.
- Add the protein powder, banana, cinnamon, and ice.
- Blend on high for 60 to 90 seconds, until the shake looks smooth with no flecks of oat.
- Add a splash more milk if it is too thick to pour.

Tips
- For a shake you can pour straight from the fridge, soak the oats in the milk overnight and blend in the morning.
- A fresh banana gives a thinner shake than a frozen one. Use frozen if you like it spoonable.
Swaps and variations
- Use certified gluten-free oats if you avoid gluten.
- Add a tablespoon of peanut butter for a longer-lasting breakfast.
