Cottage cheese sounds like an odd shake ingredient until you taste it. Once blended with cocoa and a little honey, the tang disappears and the texture is closer to a chocolate mousse. It is a good option when you want a filling shake with a lot of protein.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving.
- 1 cup low-fat cottage cheese
- 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder (about 30 g)
- ½ cup skim milk
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp honey
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 4 ice cubes
Method
- Add the milk and cottage cheese to the blender and blend for 30 seconds, until the curds are gone.
- Add the protein powder, cocoa, honey, vanilla, and ice.
- Blend again until completely smooth. Scrape down the sides if any curds cling.
- Serve with a spoon if it comes out very thick.

Tips
- Blending the cottage cheese with the milk first matters. Whole curds will not break down once the powder is in.
- Small-curd cottage cheese blends faster than large-curd.
Swaps and variations
- Use plain Greek yogurt in place of the cottage cheese for a tangier shake.
- Swap the honey for maple syrup if you want it vegetarian-friendly.
