Iced Vanilla Latte Protein Shake

A protein version of an iced vanilla latte, ready in about four minutes.

Iced Vanilla Latte Protein Shake

An iced latte is mostly milk, so adding protein powder is an easy swap. Vanilla whey stands in for the syrup. The scoop alone adds about 24 grams of protein, and the milk adds more. Pour the espresso in last so the layers show in the glass.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving.

  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (about 30 g)
  • 1 ¼ cups 2% milk
  • 2 shots espresso
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 ice cubes

Method

  1. Pull two shots of espresso, or brew very strong coffee, and let it cool for a few minutes.
  2. Add the milk, protein powder, and vanilla to a shaker bottle or blender and mix until smooth.
  3. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the milk mixture.
  4. Pour the espresso slowly over the top.

Tips

  • Hot espresso can make whey clump. Let it cool, or mix the powder with cold milk first as this recipe does.
  • A shaker bottle with a mixing ball works fine in place of a blender for this one.

Swaps and variations

  • Use oat milk for a creamier latte.
  • Use cold brew concentrate in place of the espresso.
