Mixed Berry Protein Smoothie Bowl

A smoothie bowl is a thick smoothie eaten with a spoon. The secret is minimal liquid: use only a splash of milk, and a strong blender or a food processor. The toppings supply texture and make it feel like a meal.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving.

  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (about 30 g)
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 medium frozen banana
  • ¼ cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • ¼ cup low-sugar granola
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut
  • ¼ cup blueberries

Method

  1. Add the almond milk, protein powder, berries, and banana to the blender.
  2. Blend, stopping to scrape and stir, until thick and smooth. Add one tablespoon of milk at a time only if needed.
  3. Scoop into a bowl and smooth the top.
  4. Top with granola, coconut, and fresh blueberries.

Tips

  • Too much liquid ruins the texture. Add it a tablespoon at a time.
  • A tamper or a food processor helps if the blender stalls.

Swaps and variations

  • Use plant protein for a vegan bowl.
  • Add a spoonful of nut butter on top.
