Carrot Cake Protein Shake

Carrot, oats, cinnamon, walnuts, and a little cream cheese bring carrot cake to a glass.

Carrot Cake Protein Shake

Carrot cake is spiced, sweet, and slightly tangy. This shake builds that from a raw carrot, a warm spice mix, and a spoonful of cream cheese. Use a strong blender or grate the carrot first.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving.

  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (about 30 g)
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 1 medium carrot
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp reduced-fat cream cheese
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp chopped walnuts
  • 3 ice cubes

Method

  1. Grate the carrot and add it to the blender with the milk and oats. Let it stand for two minutes.
  2. Add the protein powder, cream cheese, cinnamon, nutmeg, maple syrup, and ice.
  3. Blend on high for a full minute, until there are no carrot pieces left.
  4. Top with chopped walnuts.

Tips

  • Finely grated carrot disappears into the shake much more easily than chunks.
  • The cream cheese gives the frosting flavor. Leave it out and the shake tastes flat.

Swaps and variations

  • Use pecans in place of the walnuts.
  • Add a few raisins for sweetness and chew.
